Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra lavished a praise on Sophie Devine for her breathtaking knock against Gujarat Giants in the league stage of the Women’s Premier League. Devine single-handedly won the match for RCB as she struck a stunning 99 off just 36 balls missing out on a well-deserved hundred.
Cricketer-turned-commentator, while reviewing the match on the “AakashVani” show on Jiocinema, Chopra lauded Sophie Devine for her stupendous knock, he further stressed that RCB has made a statement by this victory that they are capable to play well.
“RCB not only won this game but issued a statement as well that when they play well, they can play so well. The total was extremely big, which could have been difficult to chase. We should see this match in reverse order. Sophie Devine – 99, she deserved a century,” Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra was also awe-struck by Devine’s cricketing shots and rated it one of the best innings in the women’s premier league. Sophie Devine struck 9 fours and 8 sixes with a whopping strike rate of 275 before being dismissed by Kim Grath missing out on a well-deserved century, which in turn would have been the first century in WPL history.
“The shots she played, seriously wow. It was the wow innings of the Women’s Premier League. She struck such huge sixes. She not only hit sixes but blew the opposition team away. It should have been the first century of the WPL but unfortunately, she was caught at mid-off at a score of 99.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore made a disastrous start to their campaign in the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League. RCB lost their first five games and then came strongly to register back-to-back against UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants. Royal Challengers will next take on Mumbai Indians in the final league game on March 21.
