Skipper Rohit Sharma returned to the National Cricket Team for the second ODI between India and Australia at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, March 19. Rohit Sharma missed the first ODI of the three-match series in Mumbai, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya led the team to victory in the absence of India’s all-format captain.
The Steve Smith-led team won the toss and opted to bowl first. The visitors made two changes to their lineup from the previous game, with Alex Carey and Nathan Ellis replacing Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell. The hosts also made two changes to the playing XI. Ishan Kishan was replaced by Rohit Sharma, while Shardul Thakur was replaced by spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel.

Three Spinners Is Something We Might Go With In The World Cup – Rohit Sharma
During the toss, Rohit Sharma revealed that three spinners were included in the playing XI for the second ODI, hinting that they would keep three spinners in the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played later this year at home. The 35-year-old explained the reason for having three spinners, saying that the pitch would help the spinners in the second innings.
“If we win the toss, I thought we could do something with three spinners if we bowl first. I think it will still turn in the second innings. And three spinners are something we might go within the World Cup, so we want to try,” Rohit Sharma said.
The home team won the series opener against Australia by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead. KL Rahul played a magnificent knock of 75 runs off 91 and stayed till the end to complete the chase. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was named Player of the Match for his stellar performance in all three departments. Jadeja scored 45 runs with the bat and took two wickets with the ball.
